Graston Technique

About the Graston Technique

Changing the way soft tissue injuries are treated.

The Graston Technique, originally developed by athletes, is changing the way clinicians - including chiropractors, athletic trainers, physical therapists and occupational therapists - and patients view treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries.

The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The Technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

The Technique offers many advantages and benefits for the patient notably:

- a decrease in overall time of treatment

- it fosters faster rehabilitation/recovery

- reduces need for anti-inflammatory medication

- resolves chronic conditions thought to be permanent

History of the Graston Technique

The Graston Technique was researched at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana in the early 1990's. It was developed by a competitive water skier with a professional backround in tool and die making. He and another athlete, both of whom suffered debilitating injuries that failed to respond to conventional therapies, combined their athletic knowledge and technical talents to forge innovative tools that would improve their condition.

The tools - now patented as the Graston Instruments - worked so effectively that an organization was created to design and license the instruments for use by chiropractors, therapists and sports trainers.

This now growing list of practitioners and clinics comprises what is now known as the Graston Technique Network. We are proud to be able to offer you this unique form of soft tissue treatment as we have fully integrated Graston Technique along with traditional chiropractic care at our office. By combining both forms of care, we are able to address many common conditions from back and neck pain to carpal tunnel problems, tennis elbow injuries, foot problems like plantar fascitis, postsurgical scars after back and neck surgery, knee replacements etc.
